My family started to live in a small village in Kyushu before I became a junior high school student. At that time I didn’t want to leave Tokyo because I had a good friend there. Her name is Kana. At school,I said to her,“ I have to live with my family in Kyushu. But I’m going to come back to Tokyo before April and live in my grandmother’s house near your house. I want to go to school with you.”
In October, my family started a new life in the village. There was only one store around our house.There were a lot of mountains. There was a beautiful river, too. All the people in the village were very kind. They helped each other like one big family. Soon I liked the village very much.
In March, I told Kana that I would not go back to Tokyo. She was very surprised and said,“ I’m very sad. But I want to see the village you like. I’ll ask my mother and go to see you in Kyushu.”
In August, Kana came to my house with her mother and stayed with us for a week. We talked a lot and enjoyed swimming in the river. On the last day, she said,“ This is a good place to live and the people living here are also nice. Now I know why you decided to live here. We cannot meet and talk so often. But we are always good friends.” I was very happy to hear her words.
Now I’m twenty-five. I came to live in Nara last year. Kana and I have been good friends for about fifteen years.
